In Catch the Camino Spirit, readers join Bill Koehne on his adventure of hiking the Camino De Santiago (the Way of St. James), an ancient pilgrimage through France and Spain. Pilgrims on a quest for spirituality have walked the Camino De Santiago in Europe for over a thousand years. During the Middle Ages, people walked from their doorsteps. Their routes were the predecessors of the various routes extending across Europe today. Ultimately, all paths converge at the tomb of St. James and the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral, located in Santiago de Compostela, the capital city of Galicia in Spain.
Hiking the Camino Francés Route
The Camino De Santiago made such an indelible impression on Bill that he was compelled to write a book. Like many other pilgrims over the centuries, Bill traveled the Camino Francés route. The 780 km route (nearly 500 miles) begins at St. Jean-Pied-du-Port in France, crosses the Pyrenees Mountains, and extends across Spain. Pilgrims walk 10-20 miles each day and spend the night at albergues (hostels) along the route.
